Our Stories

“When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

When all you see is darkness in your life, have you paused to search for the stars? I assure you they are there. Those glimmers of hope. Those reminders that God is for you. Those bright specks, urging you to trust your journey. Focus on those until the darkness subsides.

It has been my honor to interview more than one hundred courageous women who have faced life’s toughest struggles and when it came time to decide between living in defeat or fighting to overcome, they chose to fight.

It wasn’t always easy. In fact, some experienced setbacks. But they looked for the good all around them as they continued to fight to overcome their challenges.

You see, overcomers look for the stars during the dark times in their lives. They eagerly share the life lessons they’ve learned along the way in the hopes that others who face struggles will use those lessons in their fight to overcome.

May you draw from the strength and wisdom of the overcomers I’ve interviewed and find inspiration as you read their amazing stories.

Hope Heals

Sometimes you read a book and the only acceptable response is, “Wow! You go, God!” Hope Heals by Katherine and Jay Wolf demanded such a response.

  • Tiffany, You are an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your story.

  • We never know what someone else is dealing with. As a life long nurse I always keep this in the back of my mind. I think you look great in the video!! Hope that you are having better days.

  • I love you Tiffy! Thanks for sharing your authentic self and your story. Even through your cloudy days you bring sunshine to others. Keep being you. You are educating and inspiring so many. Praying for you. xoxo

  • Tiffy, you are amazing! Thank you for sharing your story and showing us we can get through any of life’s trials, if we will lean on the everlasting arms of our Lord and if we will just keep going. I am so happy you didn’t give up and you continue to overcome.

  • Tiffy you are such a great example for keeping a positive attitude even on your worst days-reading your story has certainly inspired me and many others; keep the faith and know that God is always with you in your struggles.

    • Sandra,
This disease can be very trying but through faith and a positive attitude it makes it much easier. Don’t think I never get negative because I do. I just now know that the negativity is pain. So I try to control the pain and it helps me to be more positive.

  • I am proud and honored to be your caregiver! Love you!!!

  • Thank you for sharing…I have participated in several MS fundraiser bike rides over the years because I have seen the effects on a dear friend and her family. When I ride again it I will be adding another name to my jersey.

    • Robbin,
That brings tears to my eyes! Good tears of coarse. Thank you for helping all of the MSers out there! So many of us would love to be riding but cannot because of heat sensitivity or like me, riding a bike would either be comical or dangerous!! Lol I am honored to be on your jersey! God bless you friend!!!!

  • Tiffy……..your story is amazing, as are YOU! Thank you for sharing your journey! Keep “faith it til you make it.” Indeed, your faith shines through in this story! Continue to lean on God and your faith! Without faith, we have NOTHING! It is so apparent faith has brought you a long way. God is faithful and He sees the pain you face on your bad days. Your attitude reminds me of Psalm 92:4 “For you make me glad by your deeds, O Lord; I sing for joy at the works of your hands.” You are His incredible handiwork!! So, continue rejoicing,on good and bad days! YOU are an OVERCOMER!

    Blessings,
    Sherry

    • Thank you so much! It isn’t always easy to have the faith it till you make it attitude. But I’m trying really hard to keep my attitude positive. God has me on this journey for a reason . Not sure what it is but I try and have compassion for everyone. Because we all have battles, some can be seen and some cannot. I try to give people the benefit because I don’t know what they may be battling. I just wish others would stop and think that way . Thank you for your support. It truly means the world to me. Knowing I have people praying for me that I do not know is incredible,

  • Tiffy, I am in awe of your loving strength, will and devotion to our God, your wonderful husband and 2 loving sons!!! Your story is an inspiration to me! God has His loving Jehovah Rapha hand on you giving you all these positive characteristics you are showing to us all!!! I made a note to myself that your favorite verse is 2 Sam 22:33, so, now it is one of mine, too. I will remember you and pray for you in the days ahead and yes, you are an overcomer, already and forever will be!!!
    God Bless and Keep you,

  • Five years ago, I went numb from the waist down. After quite a few MRI’s, spinal tap, I was diagonsed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was on Avenox for almost 2 years, i had 1 year of monthly steroids IV, had to stop due to hip pain. Through my physiotherapist i learnt about a MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS HERBAL TREATMENT from R.H.F. (RichHerbs Herbal Foundation) and their success rate with the treatment, i immediately started on the MS treatment, i experienced decline in major symptoms including hand tremor, back pain, difficulty walking, muscle paralysis and weakness, uncomfortable tingling and burning, fatigue, urinary retention, double vision, slurred speech difficulty swallowing, numbness. Visit ww w. richherbsfoundation. c om. I knew that a positive attitude is everything and to just believe, I’m in control of my life again….

  • Thank you for all of the love and support! I’m honored to be able to share my story. I pray that someone will see this and realize that this disease is not a death sentence. Is it hard, Yes! However your attitude is everything. Please feel free to reach out if you ever want to talk…..

  • Thank you for sharing your story so others can know there is help.

  • My father had this disease for 29 years until he died at 69. He experienced many issues but lived for many years in a wheel chair. Fortunately he was never bed ridden.

He then took those fears and turned them into courage and faith. Cori has shared with me how God has given her strength. Strength to fight, strength to share and strength in her faith. She is already helping others that are now fighting this cancer! The insight she can share and the support she can give is a gift. I am so proud of her strength, courage and perseverance through this battle. I will always be in awe of her strength, but what I received from her is far more valuable…… my faith has deepened. • Paul said that the greatest of things was love. And Christ was nothing BUT love-love for ALL people. He never discriminated or said “Yeah, but….”. Having been a nurse for over 25 years I can tell you that we are all the same in the inside. Everyone of us no matter what that color on the outside bleed the same color. I remember so well taking care of a young man with white supremacy tattoos all over his chest. There was a black doctor, an Indian doctor and a Muslim respiratory therapist-and me-working feverishly to save his life. One of his tattoos was very vile toward the black race. The black doctor never even hesitated. I wondered what the man would have thought if he had been awake and able to see the people working so hard to save his life. Have never understood the hatred of another person because of their skin color. I think about what God has sent us out into the world to do and the love and grace that he has shown us…and how the human race messes that up so often. luckily for us He is a God of mercy.

  • Your words are inspiring! Thank you for sharing!

  • It saddens me that we have gone backwards in this issue. I hope one day we can all learn to love and appreciate each other for who we are.

  • Thank you for sharing this post with me on my Facebook page. A powerful message we all need to live. My desire is to live the love of Christ to all. Satan is having a field day in the church. We must stand firm and fight with love (verb) not react with selfish emotion. We can do this through the power of the Holy Spirit.

    • Yes! Yes! Yes! It was so powerful to hear him speak. His passion for healthy and even vibrant race relations was evident.

  • What a frightening ordeal! I’ve met a few people who say they have adopted a gluten-free diet but none with a compelling story like that. I’m so inspired by your journey.

  • G. Hubbard, thank you for reading my story! Indeed, it was a frightening ordeal! However, keeping my focus on God and His power enabled me to feel peace in the midst of my difficult circumstances! Proverbs 3:5-6 is one of my favorite scriptures. Always lean on Him, not your understanding! Wishing you a healthy and happy new year!

  • LaVon, thank you for your kind comments! Indeed, it is important to be our own advocate when the doctors are not fully listening to our concerns. Many special blessings to you in 2018 and always!

  • Wow Sherry!!! Talking about overcoming obstacles…Your faith in God leaves me in awe. Your steadfastness and will to live is just incredible to read!!! It is inspiring to see you take your physical and spiritual so seriously, and how God guided you through his word. Reading your direct quotes, “Brought tears to my eyes, I’m so glad you didn’t loose hope!” You have a wonderful testimony people should know about, because this short version of your journey is a “Must Read!”

  • Thank you Stephanie for your kindhearted comments and encouragement! Indeed, there is so much more to my story. However, I am thankful to Melony Brown for her wonderful storytelling ability to capture the very essence of my journey in such a thoughtful way! Yes, God is the anchor of my life! His word (Jeremiah 29:11) tells me HE KNOWS the plans HE has for me, not man! Therefore, we must NEVER give up! Many amazing blessings are in store for you in 2018!

  • God is a great and an awesome god !!
Sherry you’re an awesome person to strive and press on to find out what your diagnosis was. I think it is so sad when Dr’s can’t be more consistent to help people with pain to find out what could be the problem. I’m glad God gave you the strength and knowledge to continue to persevere and not give up. It’s very nice of you to want to share the experience with others about gluten free products. And I pray that you will be able to share on the web with others. Thanks for sharing.

  • Sheryl…. Amen! God is great and awesome and faithful! Thank you for your encouraging comments! All praise to God for the perseverance and wisdom He gave me! Unfortunately, doctors don’t always know how to handle food allergies and many find it hard to believe the allergies even exist. In most doctor’s eyes, skin problems must be eczema. The severe “eczema” I was diagnosed with was baffling to the doctors because I never had eczema as a child. But, they did not dig deeper! They just prescribed more steroids and topical creams! This is why it is important for me to share my journey to gluten free! Much love, good health and many special blessings to you in 2018!

  • Sherry – you are a true fighter. Prayer, faith and preserverance are key to your strength. Encourage others to not give up!

    Continue Blessings for Good Health!

  • Bea Mac…thank you for reading my story. I appreciate your encouraging words! Indeed, I will continue to encourage others to persevere in faith.

Wishing you good health and happiness Bea Mac today and always!!

  • Wow! God has brought you through a lot. You are most definitely a walking miracle. To God be the glory. God has allowed you to go through this situation to be a blessing to others. You are going to be successful. Your story is going to reach the world.

    • Veronica……..Yesssssszzz…to God be the glory! As you know, we serve a mighty and faithful God! Thank you for your encouraging words! Indeed, “the Lord made His face shine upon me and He was gracious to me.” Numbers 6:25

Wishing you God’s abundant blessings, including good health, joy, peace, wealth, and happiness!

  • Dear Sherry, thank you for sharing your story. Trusting the Lord and your dedication to finding the real solution for your illness, really pays for sure. Your story can help a lot of people who do not know why they are suffering like that and nobody can help them. You are an amazing person.

  • What a lot to go through. So happy they are both doing well, still together, and have God in their lives.

  • Wanda, you are a walking testimony to how God will never leave us during difficulties if we cry out to Him and remain in His word. What a great God we serve who had you physically ready to take on your fight and to have your husband so able to encourage you and lift you up on your journey. Seeing God’s hand work is such a blessing. Thank you for sharing your story.

  • Thank you for sharing your story, I’ve know so many with throat cancer and your story is light to all who are suffering from this or any other ailment in life! thank you for your positive attitude and showing the world you don’t have to be bitter! Big Hugs!

  • Having witnessed the misery that she endured first hand-her ability to stay focused was like nothing I have ever seen. My mother in law is a FIGHTER. A FIGHTER from the beginning. A young mother, a single mother, a grieving mother, my mother. I have so much respect for this woman. Not only because she raised the amazing man that is my husband-and I feel such a debt of gratitude now that I am raising a young man myself! Growing a man is not easy! She has never ceased to be there for me and Shane and especially our children. A strong Nana that loves fiercely.

I say often that I have not done much well in life but I married well and THAT has made all the difference. My mother in law is a large aspect of that.

  • Wanda, you are such a strong example for a Godly woman. Scott and I were very close to Shane and Shanon during the tragic time of Brian’s death. I am so glad to still call them friends. You have been a pillar of a matriarch for your family and should be very proud of all of them!

  • Wanda, your story inspired me and I thank you for sharing it with us. I am so happy for you and your husband that you have healing and faith in God!!!

  • Hi Wanda!
I loved meeting you Sat at our Overcomer Celebration and felt an immediate bond!!!
I wanted to share with you that since I have been taking Precept Bible classes, I learned to do word studies by looking up Hebrew meanings for Old Testament words and Greek for New Testament words. After reading your story and knowing your love for the song “Still” that you shared I thought you would like to know something from my testimony back in 2008, while on a mission trip to Moldova. I fell over there in the poorest country in Eastern Europe, broke my ankle in 3 places…..fast forward while on the ground there God brought to my mind Ps 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God. Hebrew of the word still means Rapha …Jehohvah Rapha is our Great Physician….only place in the bible where this is the meaning of still. ca Take care, Ann

  • So much to endure… But what an awesome God we have. Our ultimate physician that heals and restores. So happy for you and thankful you shared your story.

There’s so much to take away from this book. I just wanted to keep highlighting things. Anybody can relate to this book. Tbrough all of our trials and tribulations there is a message each one of us can deliver to someone else out there. Your mess is your message. Your pain can be your deliverance. And your broken story will heal somebody else along the way. A must-read for anyone whether you believe or not!!

  • Great book review.
